Terrell, TX Real Estate - Terrell Homes for Sale

Introduction: Thirty miles away from Dallas, Terrell’s motto is that it “Is a Great Place to Work and Live.” The city’s 16,000 residents enjoy the charm of a small community and a historic downtown district. Terrell has a mix of historic neighborhoods and affordable new construction communities that offer modern amenities. Terrell Independent School District was established in 1883 and it has a proud history of providing quality education to its students. Terrell ISD has 8 campuses that serve approximately 4,100 students. Terrell’s small town charm is the reason it is one of Kaufman County’s most sought after places to call home.

Entertainment: Terrell is known across North Texas for its antique retailers, where shoppers can find glassware, crystal, furniture and other keepsakes. Visitors and residents walk the boulevards in Terrell’s Historical District, which are lined with vintage lighting and brick planters that echo back to an earlier time.

Another can’t miss Terrell tradition is Ham’s Orchards. Established in 1979 as a roadside peach stand, Ham’s has grown to a full scale, air conditioned farmer's market. Shoppers can buy fresh produce, homemade ice cream, baked goods and BBQ. With 100 acres containing about 10,000 peach trees and other fruit trees, Ham’s opens up to the public for “Pick Your Own Blackberries” during the harvest season so local bakers can make tasty treats.

Historical: Terrell’s roots trace back to the creation of Texas and Pacific Railroad Company’s new transcontinental line from Longview, Texas to California. In 1873, a group of landowners led by Robert A. Terrell donated 100 acres to the railroad company in exchange for a depot on the rail line. As a “depot town”, Terrell’s rapid growth lead to the town’s incorporation in 1874. With over 1,000 residents, Terrell was Kaufman County’s commercial center. Downtown Terrell drew farm families in from across Texas to trade and visit. Today, Terrell’s Historic District still serves as a charming place to shop, dine and enjoy Texas evenings.
